Part-time SEN Teaching Assistant – Nursery Specialist

Role Overview
We are seeking a passionate and experienced Part-time SEN Teaching Assistant to join our nursery team. The successful candidate will work closely with our nursery teachers and SEN coordinator to support children with special educational needs in their early years of development. This role requires a deep understanding of both nursery-age children and SEN, as well as the ability to create and implement tailored learning strategies.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide one-to-one and small group support to children with SEN in the nursery setting
- Assist in the implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and monitor progress
- Collaborate with nursery teachers and the SEN coordinator to develop and adapt learning materials suitable for children with various needs
- Support children’s personal, social, and emotional development
- Assist with physical care and support, including toileting, feeding, and mobility where necessary
- Maintain accurate records of children’s progress and communicate effectively with parents and other staff members
- Participate in planning meetings and contribute to the development of SEN strategies within the nursery
- Create and maintain a safe, inclusive, and stimulating learning environment
- Support children during playtime and lunch breaks, encouraging social interaction and independence
- Assist with the preparation and clearing of activities and resources
- Attend relevant training and professional development sessions
Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum NVQ Level 3 in Childcare and Education or equivalent qualification
- Proven experience working with nursery-age children (0-5 years)
- Demonstrated experience in supporting children with special educational needs
- Understanding of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework
- Knowledge of various SEN conditions and appropriate support strategies
- First aid qualification (desirable)
