About Us Apply Now

Job Title: SEMH Teaching Assistant
Location: Lancing, West Sussex
Start Date: September 2025
Salary: £95.83 per day
Contract: Temp to Perm (12 working weeks)
Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 4:00pm
(Please note: while temping, there may be a half day on Thursdays, but full-time hours are required once permanent.)

Are you passionate about supporting children and young people with social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs? Do you have the resilience, empathy, and experience to make a real difference in their lives?

We are recruiting on behalf of a warm, nurturing specialist school in Lancing that supports pupils aged 5 to 18 with a range of additional needs including autism, ADHD, and SEMH—with SEMH being the primary focus. These young people may have experienced early trauma, unstable home lives, low self-esteem, or attachment difficulties, which can lead to emotional dysregulation, refusal, and challenging behaviours.

The school provides a safe and supportive space where students are helped to re-engage with learning and develop the tools they need to thrive. The team is caring, committed, and passionate about building positive relationships and creating opportunities for growth.

What We’re Looking For:

We need someone who can hit the ground running—a confident and experienced practitioner who:

  • Has supported children or young people with mental health challenges, trauma, or additional needs

  • Understands the complexities of SEMH and SEND

  • Is resilient, patient, and emotionally robust

  • Can remain calm and consistent even in high-pressure situations

  • Can de-escalate high tension situations, or bubbling emotions
  • Is reliable, flexible, and genuinely cares about helping young people feel safe and valued

The School Offers:

  • A warm, welcoming environment with a strong sense of community

  • Supportive leadership and experienced staff who care deeply about the pupils

  • Opportunities for career progression and professional development

  • The potential for a permanent contract after 12 successful weeks

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is passionate about working with young people and making a lasting impact.
The role is temporary to permanent, with the potential to grow and develop within our school.

Apply today!

If you are a compassionate, proactive, and enthusiastic individual with a genuine desire to support students with SEMH and SEN needs, we encourage you to apply for this rewarding role.
