Emotional Literacy Support Assistant (ELSA): SEMH & Autism Support Specialist

Location: New SEMH School near Crawley
Salary: £115–£125 per day
Contract: Full-time, Term-Time


About the Role

Are you passionate about making a real difference in the lives of young people? We are looking for a dedicated Emotional Literacy Support Assistant (ELSA) to join a brand-new specialist SEMH school for students aged 11–16. With small class sizes and a nurturing environment, this is an incredible opportunity to support pupils with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health needs and Autism, helping them thrive both academically and emotionally.


What You’ll Do

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support for students with SEMH and autism
  • Develop and deliver tailored emotional literacy interventions
  • Work closely with teachers, parents, and external professionals to create holistic support plans
  • Help students build confidence, resilience, and coping strategies
  • Support behaviour management using positive reinforcement techniques
  • Contribute to Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and EHCPs
  • Maintain accurate records and report on progress

What We’re Looking For

  • ELSA qualification (or willingness to train)
  • Experience supporting young people with SEMH and autism
  • Strong understanding of emotional literacy and child development
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
  • Empathy, patience, and a proactive approach
  • Knowledge of safeguarding and child protection
