SEMH Teaching Assistant – Haywards Heath, West Sussex (Challenging Behaviour Experience Preferred)

Day Rate: £102 per day

We are recruiting for a dedicated and resilient Teaching Assistant to join a specialist SEMH school in the Haywards Heath area. This long-term position involves supporting children and young people with social, emotional and mental health needs, including those who present with challenging behaviours, within a structured, nurturing and therapeutic environment.

As a Teaching Assistant, you will play a key role in helping students regulate emotions, re-engage with learning, and build confidence both socially and academically. You’ll work closely with teachers and pastoral staff, providing one-to-one and small group support, using trauma-informed approaches, and helping create a calm, consistent and supportive classroom environment.

What We’re Looking For:
• Strong experience supporting children or young people with SEMH needs or challenging behaviours (or willingness to learn)
• A patient, empathetic and child-centred approach
• Strong communication, teamwork and organisational skills
• Confidence using behaviour support and emotional regulation strategies
• A proactive, resilient and compassionate attitude
