De-escalation Mentor – 1:1 Behaviour & SEN Support (Hastings)

About the Role

We are looking for a compassionate, confident and proactive De-escalation Mentor to provide 1:1 support to a pupil with additional behavioural or learning needs in a warm, inclusive school in Hastings.

In this vital role, you will be the pupil’s calm, consistent point of support—helping them regulate emotions, re-engage in learning, develop resilience and build positive relationships throughout the school day.

If you are someone who stays steady under pressure and genuinely enjoys helping young people succeed, this is an incredibly rewarding opportunity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver 1:1 support for a pupil with SEND or SEMH needs (e.g. ASD, ADHD, anxiety, behaviour challenges)

  • Use de-escalation strategies to support emotional regulation and maintain a safe, positive learning environment

  • Build a strong, trusting relationship to help the pupil feel understood, motivated and secure

  • Encourage engagement in lessons and support learning activities alongside the class teacher

  • Promote positive behaviour routines, problem-solving skills and independence

  • Follow personalised support plans and contribute to ongoing progress

What We’re Looking For

  • Experience supporting children or young people (school, childcare, care, youth work, sports coaching, mentoring etc.)

  • Confidence using or learning de-escalation and behaviour-support approaches

  • A calm, patient and professional approach—even in challenging moments

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build rapport quickly

  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)

  • A positive, resilient and supportive attitude with a genuine passion for helping young people thrive

What You’ll Gain

  • The chance to make a meaningful impact every single day

  • Valuable hands-on experience for careers in SEN, teaching, psychology, youth work or mentoring

  • Flexible bank-style work with consistent weekly availability

  • A supportive school team that values your contribution
