Contract: Flexible cover role (as required), 5 days per week preferred

Role Overview

We are seeking a motivated, patient, and supportive Pupil Engagement Officer to work with students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) across schools in Bexhill. The role focuses on increasing pupil engagement, supporting learning, and promoting positive behaviour and emotional wellbeing. You will play an important role in helping pupils stay focused, feel supported, and develop the skills they need to succeed both in and out of the classroom.

You will work closely with teaching staff and pastoral teams to ensure pupils feel safe, motivated, and able to engage fully with their education.


Key Responsibilities

  • Support pupils with SEMH, ASD, ADHD, and other SEND needs through 1:1 and small-group engagement.

  • Encourage positive participation in lessons and school activities.

  • Use supportive, calm approaches to help pupils regulate emotions and behaviour.

  • Identify barriers to engagement and work with staff to develop strategies to overcome them.

  • Build strong, positive relationships with pupils to boost confidence and motivation.

  • Support teachers in maintaining an inclusive and structured learning environment.

  • Record observations, engagement levels, and contribute to pupil support plans.

  • Assist with classroom routines, personalised tasks, and learning activities.

  • Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, pastoral teams, parents, and external professionals.


Person Specification

Essential:

  • Experience working with children or young people, ideally within SEND, behaviour support, or pastoral roles.

  • Strong communication skills, patience, and resilience.

  • Ability to remain calm and supportive in challenging situations.

  • A flexible, proactive approach suitable for a cover-based role.

Preferred:

  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service.

  • Understanding of SEND strategies, emotional regulation, and engagement-focused approaches.

  • Experience in mainstream or specialist educational settings.
