🌱 Pastoral Support Mentor – SEMH School (Horley, Independent)

Location: Horley
Age Group: 11+
School Type: Small, Independent, Vocational & Highly Therapeutic
Start: ASAP
Contract: Full‑time, long‑term
Experience: Previous SEMH/SEND or behaviour support experience preferred

Are you someone who truly connects with young people and thrives in a therapeutic, relationship‑based environment?

We are supporting a small, independent SEMH school in Horley that works with students aged 11+ who benefit from a more personalised, vocational and highly therapeutic approach to education. The school offers a nurturing environment where every student is known, valued, and supported holistically — not just academically.

This is a brilliant opportunity for someone who is passionate about pastoral care and wants to make a meaningful impact every single day.

💛 The Role – Pastoral Support Mentor

You’ll play a vital part in the school’s wellbeing team, supporting students with SEMH needs who may struggle with emotional regulation, confidence, behaviour, or engagement.

Your day could include:

  • Providing 1:1 and small‑group pastoral mentoring
  • Supporting with de‑escalation and emotional regulation
  • Building trusting, consistent relationships with students aged 11+
  • Encouraging positive behaviour, confidence and independence
  • Working closely with wellbeing leads, teaching staff, and therapists
  • Creating a calm, safe, supportive environment where pupils feel grounded

Because the school is small and highly therapeutic, you’ll have the space to build genuine relationships and see the impact of your support first‑hand.

🌟 What We’re Looking For

You don’t need every qualification in the world — the right mindset matters most.
Experience in SEMH, SEN, youth work, or behaviour support is preferred.

You’ll be a great match if you are:

  • Calm, empathetic and emotionally resilient
  • Confident supporting students with behavioural challenges
  • A great listener with strong communication skills
  • Able to build rapport quickly and authentically
  • Passionate about holistic, therapeutic approaches
  • Reflective, patient and consistent

🏫 Why This School?

  • Small, close‑knit independent setting
  • Highly vocational and therapeutic – not a traditional mainstream environment
  • Supportive leadership who genuinely care about staff wellbeing
  • Ongoing CPD, guidance and pastoral training
  • The opportunity to see real, transformational progress in young people
  • A role where your presence and consistency truly matter
