A specialist secondary provision in Portsmouth is looking to appoint a confident Behaviour Support Assistant to join their team supporting pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
This is a setting where relationships matter. The students are bright, capable young people who have struggled in mainstream education and need consistent, calm adults who can build trust and create structure.
This role would suit someone with a strong presence, a good sense of humour and the ability to de-escalate situations before they become a problem.
You will be working closely with teachers and pastoral staff to support students both in and out of the classroom.
Supporting pupils with SEMH needs in lessons
Managing behaviour and supporting emotional regulation
Working 1:1 with students who require additional support
Helping pupils re-engage with learning
Supporting intervention sessions and small group work
Has experience working with SEMH, behaviour or challenging environments
Can remain calm and professional under pressure
Builds strong relationships with young people
Is reliable and consistent
DBS on the Update Service
Up-to-date safeguarding training
This is an immediate start role with the opportunity to become long-term for the right candidate.
