Deputy Manager – Children’s Residential Home (Therapeutic Care)

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Deputy Manager to support the leadership and day-to-day running of a therapeutic children’s home. This is a senior role requiring strong leadership, safeguarding knowledge, and a commitment to high-quality, child-centred care.


Key Responsibilities

  • Support the Registered Manager in the safe, effective operation of the home
  • Lead and manage the team, including supervision, guidance, and performance management
  • Take full responsibility for the home in the absence of the Registered Manager
  • Promote and maintain a therapeutic environment and model of care
  • Ensure compliance with all safeguarding, regulatory, and legislative requirements
  • Oversee care planning, risk management, and quality of care
  • Contribute to staff recruitment, training, and professional development
  • Support effective communication with external professionals and agencies
  • Monitor and improve standards, ensuring positive outcomes for children

Working Pattern

  • This is not a 9–5 role
  • Full-time, shift-based position including early, late, and on-call duties
  • Requires flexibility to meet the needs of the service
  • £15-17 hourly rate 

Essential Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in a management role within children’s residential care or similar
  • Strong understanding of safeguarding, child protection, and regulatory frameworks (e.g. Ofsted)
  • Experience working within a therapeutic environment or with children with complex needs
  • Proven ability to lead, manage, and develop teams
  • Excellent communication, organisational, and decision-making skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and handle emotionally demanding situations
  • Strong understanding of equality, diversity, and professional boundaries

Desirable

  • Level 5 Diploma in Leadership & Management for Residential Childcare (or working towards)
  • Experience in SEMH or specialist educational settings
  • Driving licence
