Cover Teacher – SEMH School (Lancing)

We are looking for a confident, adaptable and enthusiastic Cover Teacher to join a specialist SEMH school in Lancing. This is a highly rewarding opportunity to support primary-aged pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs in a nurturing and structured environment.

This varied role will involve covering different classes across the school. To help you settle into the position, you will first spend time shadowing experienced staff members and getting to know the pupils, routines and school environment before taking on classroom cover responsibilities.

If you are flexible, proactive and happy to jump in where needed, this could be the perfect role for you.

The Role:

  • Covering lessons across a range of primary classes when required
  • Supporting pupils with SEMH needs to engage in learning
  • Following lesson plans and adapting activities where needed
  • Building positive relationships with pupils and staff
  • Managing behaviour in a calm, consistent and supportive manner
  • Working collaboratively with teachers, teaching assistants and senior staff
  • Creating a safe, positive and engaging classroom environment

Requirements:

  • Experience working with children or young people, ideally within education or SEND/SEMH settings
  • A flexible and positive approach
  • Confidence covering different classes and adapting to changing situations
  • Strong behaviour management and communication skills
  • Resilient, patient and calm under pressure
  • A genuine passion for helping pupils succeed
