SEMH Support Staff – Full Time (Long Term)
Location: Hailsham and surrounding areas

We are currently recruiting for dedicated and resilient Support Staff to work within SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) schools across Hailsham and the surrounding areas. These are full-time, long-term positions supporting students both in small groups and on a 1:1 basis.

This is a rewarding but challenging role, ideal for individuals who are confident, proactive, and able to build strong relationships with young people who may display challenging behaviours.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Providing 1:1 and small group support to students with SEMH needs
  • Supporting students with emotional regulation and behaviour management
  • Assisting the class teacher in delivering engaging and structured lessons
  • Building positive, trusting relationships with pupils
  • Encouraging participation and promoting a safe, inclusive learning environment
  • Managing challenging behaviour in a calm and consistent manner
  • Supporting students both inside and outside of the classroom

Skills & Experience:

  • Strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills
  • Confident, calm, and resilient approach
  • Ability to build rapport quickly with students
  • Team player with a proactive attitude
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Patience, empathy, and consistency

Transferable Experience Considered:
Previous school experience is beneficial but not essential. We welcome applicants from backgrounds such as:

  • Youth work
  • Support work or care roles
  • Coaching or sports leadership
  • Mental health support roles
  • Residential care
  • Security or safeguarding roles
