English Teacher – Alternative Provision

Burgess Hill Area

Full-Time | September Start | Paid to Scale

Pink Tile Education are working in partnership with a specialist Provision in the Burgess Hill area, who are seeking a passionate and resilient English Teacher to join their team from September.

This provision supports pupils aged 5–16 who are unable to access mainstream education due to medical needs, behavioural challenges, social, emotional and mental health needs, or other barriers to learning. The school provides a highly supportive and nurturing environment where students are encouraged to rebuild confidence, regulate emotions, and re-engage with education.

The successful candidate will be teaching English across secondary age groups, delivering engaging and differentiated lessons that support students with a wide range of abilities and learning needs. Many pupils may have experienced disrupted education or negative experiences within mainstream settings, so the school are looking for someone patient, adaptable, and relationship-focused.

This role requires someone who understands that behaviour is often communication and who can support students through a calm, consistent, and trauma-informed approach. Pupils may at times present with challenging behaviour, both verbally and physically, so resilience and strong behaviour management are essential.

The Ideal Candidate Will:

  • Be a qualified teacher or experienced unqualified teacher with strong English knowledge

  • Have experience working with SEMH, SEND, behavioural needs, or vulnerable young people

  • Be confident adapting lessons to suit varying learning levels and abilities

  • Have strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills

  • Have a good understanding of mental health and trauma-informed practice

  • Be able to build positive, trusting relationships with students

  • Be passionate about helping young people rebuild confidence in education

The school are also open to candidates with transferable experience from specialist settings, youth work, mentoring, care, or therapeutic environments who are passionate about supporting vulnerable young people.

The Role:

  • Teaching English to secondary-aged students

  • Planning and delivering engaging, accessible lessons

  • Supporting emotional regulation and student engagement

  • Working collaboratively with pastoral and therapeutic teams

  • Encouraging confidence, communication, and positive learning behaviours

  • Full-time position starting in September

  • Paid to scale depending on experience

This is a highly rewarding opportunity to join a supportive specialist provision where staff make a genuine and lasting impact on young people’s educational journeys and emotional wellbeing.
