Apprentice Teaching Assistant (Trainee Role)

Job summary

This is a fantastic entry-level opportunity for someone looking to begin a career in education and special educational needs (SEND). You will gain hands-on classroom experience while completing a Level 3 Teaching Assistant apprenticeship, with full training and support provided throughout.

No previous experience is required—just a positive attitude, willingness to learn, and a genuine interest in supporting young people to achieve their potential.


The role

As an Apprentice Teaching Assistant, you will play an important part in supporting students to access learning, build confidence, and feel included in the classroom. You will work closely with teaching staff and the SEND team to help ensure every student has the opportunity to succeed.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting students in lessons under the direction of the class teacher
  • Working with individuals and small groups, particularly students with additional needs (SEND)
  • Helping students understand tasks, stay engaged, and access learning materials
  • Encouraging positive behaviour, independence, and confidence in learning
  • Supporting students with emotional regulation and social development where needed
  • Helping to create a safe, calm, and inclusive classroom environment
  • Observing and feeding back to staff on student progress and engagement
  • Assisting with classroom preparation and learning resources

Training and development

You will receive structured training towards a Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification alongside your daily role in the classroom. You will be supported by experienced staff who will help you develop your skills, confidence, and understanding of working in education.

This role is ideal for someone considering a long-term career in teaching, SEND support, or wider education settings.
