We are looking for a compassionate, resilient and enthusiastic Learning Support Assistant to join a fantastic specialist school in Haywards Heath, supporting secondary-aged students with SEMH needs.
The school has amazing facilities and a fantastic learning environment, with a strong focus on supporting young people to develop their confidence, independence, emotional wellbeing and educational outcomes.
Students may present with a range of needs including SEMH, Autism, ADHD, behavioural challenges, and speech and language difficulties.
As a Learning Support Assistant, you will work closely with teaching staff and pupils to provide consistent, individualised support throughout the school day.
Your responsibilities will include:
Supporting secondary-aged students with a range of additional needs
Providing 1:1 and small-group support where required
Helping students engage with learning and classroom activities
Supporting students with SEMH and behavioural challenges
Helping students develop confidence, independence and positive relationships
Supporting communication and speech and language needs
Using a calm, consistent and nurturing approach to behaviour
Building positive and trusting relationships with students
Working closely with teachers and the wider support team
Helping create a safe, structured and inclusive learning environment
Supporting students’ emotional wellbeing and regulation
We are looking for someone who is:
Patient, calm and resilient
Confident supporting young people with challenging behaviour
Passionate about working with students with SEMH and additional needs
Able to build strong and positive relationships with young people
Consistent and confident when managing behaviour
Adaptable and able to respond to individual student needs
A strong team player with excellent communication skills
Previous experience working with SEMH, Autism, ADHD or challenging behaviour is highly desirable.
