Location: Croydon
Pay: £100–£120 per day
Hours: 8:30am – 3:30pm, Monday to Friday
Contract: Full-time, long-term

Are you passionate about supporting children and young people with SEND and SEMH needs?

We are looking for a caring, patient and resilient Individual Needs Assistant to join a supportive school in the Croydon area. This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who is confident supporting pupils with autism, ADHD, challenging behaviour and a range of additional needs.

About the Role

As an Individual Needs Assistant, you will provide tailored 1:1 and small-group support to pupils who require additional assistance with their learning, behaviour, communication and emotional development.

You will work closely with teachers, the SENCO and wider school team to help pupils overcome barriers to learning and make positive progress.

The role will involve supporting children with a range of needs, including:

  • Autism / ASC
  • ADHD
  • SEMH needs
  • Challenging or dysregulated behaviour
  • Emotional and behavioural difficulties
  • Communication and interaction needs
  • Speech and language difficulties
  • Learning difficulties
  • Social and emotional needs
  • Complex SEND

You will help pupils develop confidence, independence, emotional regulation and positive relationships, while encouraging them to engage with their education.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide dedicated 1:1 and small-group support.
  • Build positive and trusting relationships with pupils.
  • Support children to access and engage with their learning.
  • Help pupils manage emotions and regulate their behaviour.
  • Support children who may display challenging or unpredictable behaviour.
  • Encourage positive behaviour and social interaction.
  • Develop pupils’ confidence, independence and self-esteem.
  • Adapt your approach to meet individual needs.
  • Work closely with teachers, SENCOs and other professionals.
  • Follow individual learning, support and behaviour plans.
  • Provide a calm, consistent and nurturing presence throughout the school day.
  • Act as a positive role model for the pupils you support.

About You

We are looking for someone who is patient, compassionate, resilient and enthusiastic about helping children overcome barriers to learning.

Previous experience working with SEND, SEMH, autism, ADHD or challenging behaviour is desirable. Experience in a school, SEN setting, childcare, youth work, residential care, support work or a similar environment would also be beneficial.

You may already have experience as a Teaching Assistant, Individual Needs Assistant, Learning Support Assistant, Behaviour Support Worker, Youth Worker or SEN support worker.

However, we are also interested in candidates who have the right attitude and transferable experience. Most importantly, you will need to be able to build strong relationships, remain calm under pressure and provide consistent support to pupils who may find school challenging.
