SEND / SEMH Teaching Assistant – Specialist Provision
Location: Haywards Heath
Start Date: After October Half Term
Hours: 8:30am – 3:30pm, Monday to Friday
Pay: £100 per day
Contract: Temp to Perm
Pink Tile Education are recruiting for a SEND / SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a specialist educational provision in Haywards Heath, supporting secondary-aged students who are receiving inpatient treatment for complex and significant mental health needs.
This is a unique and rewarding opportunity for someone who is passionate about SEND, SEMH and supporting young people who have experienced significant barriers to education.
The provision supports young people who are receiving inpatient treatment for a range of complex mental health needs, including severe mental health difficulties, eating disorders and psychosis.
Students attend the school alongside their treatment and are supported to engage with education at a pace that is appropriate for them. Many students will have missed significant periods of education, meaning they may be working below their expected academic level.
The school provides a calm, supportive and highly individualised learning environment, with a strong focus on rebuilding confidence, engagement and positive relationships with education.
Students may take part in:
Themed group learning and activities
1:1 teaching and learning
Personalised educational programmes
Academic catch-up and intervention
Activities designed to build confidence and independence
Re-engagement with education following periods of absence
Some students may be heavily medicated as part of their treatment, so patience, understanding and a calm approach are particularly important.
As a SEND / SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with students throughout the school day, supporting them both academically and emotionally.
You will help students to engage with their learning, build positive relationships and feel comfortable within the school environment.
The role would suit someone who is positive, engaging, confident and compassionate, with the ability to adapt their approach depending on the needs of each individual student.
You will be part of a wider multidisciplinary team. A medical team is present on site at all times and will provide support if a student becomes dysregulated or requires additional medical support.

Understanding of SEND, SEMH or mental health needs
Comfortable working within a specialist and multidisciplinary environment
Previous experience within SEND, SEMH, mental health, alternative provision, residential settings, healthcare or similar environments would be highly beneficial.
You may be an experienced Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant, Behaviour Support Worker, Youth Worker, Mental Health Support Worker or someone with relevant personal or professional experience who is looking to develop their career within specialist education.
