Location: Between Horsham and Billingshurst, West Sussex
Salary: £34,811–£38,510 per annum (NJC Scale 22–26)
Start Date: January 2027
Contract: Permanent opportunity

About the Role

Pink Tile Education is recruiting a School Nurse to join a specialist SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) school based between Horsham and Billingshurst.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced School Nurse or healthcare professional with relevant school-based medical experience to join a supportive team of three, helping to ensure the health, safety and wellbeing of pupils throughout the school day.

You will play an important role in supporting children and young people with additional needs, managing their medical requirements and providing reassurance and care when they need it most.

You do not need to be a qualified nurse to apply. The school is particularly interested in candidates with previous experience working as a School Nurse and managing the day-to-day medical needs of pupils in an educational setting. Applications from qualified nurses with a suitable interest in the role are also welcome.

Key Responsibilities

  • Administer and dispense prescribed medication in line with school policies and procedures.

  • Respond to accidents, injuries and pupils who become unwell during the school day.

  • Communicate with parents and carers regarding pupils’ health and medical needs.

  • Carry out routine health measurements, including height and weight checks.

  • Coordinate school flu vaccination programmes and support other health initiatives.

  • Ensure emergency medication, including EpiPens, is stored safely and is accessible when required.

  • Help organise and maintain staff medical training, including first aid, allergies and anaphylaxis awareness.

  • Accompany pupils to hospital when necessary.

  • Maintain accurate medical records and ensure appropriate health and safety procedures are followed.

  • Work collaboratively with the wider school team to provide consistent, safe and compassionate care.

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has previous experience working as a School Nurse or in a similar school-based medical role.

  • Is confident supporting children and young people with a range of medical needs.

  • Has experience administering medication and responding to medical incidents.

  • Understands the importance of safeguarding, confidentiality and accurate record-keeping.

  • Has strong communication and organisational skills.

  • Is calm, caring and able to respond confidently in unexpected situations.

  • Can work effectively as part of a team while also using their own initiative.

Experience within a SEND, SEMH or specialist educational setting would be particularly beneficial.

What the School Offers

  • A competitive annual salary of £34,811–£38,510, depending on experience and the relevant NJC pay point.

  • The opportunity to join an established and supportive school nursing team.

  • A rewarding role where you can make a genuine difference to pupils’ health and wellbeing.

  • A permanent position with a January 2027 start.
