1:1 Learning Support Assistant (High Needs) | Immediate Start

We’re looking for a caring, committed and proactive 1:1 Learning Support Assistant to join a warm, inclusive primary setting and provide dedicated support to a pupil with additional needs.

✨ Role Overview

Position: 1:1 Learning Support Assistant (High Needs)
Days: Monday–Friday
Times: 8:30am – 2:30pm (including 30 minutes of lunch cover)
Start date: As soon as possible
Contract: Temporary, linked to funding
Salary: Grade 4 (Point 5), pro‑rated for term‑time working


🌟 What You’ll Be Doing

As part of the team, you will:

  • Work closely with the class teacher to support a child’s learning, progress and wellbeing
  • Promote independence, confidence and positive self‑esteem
  • Provide 1:1 support and small‑group help, enabling full access to the curriculum
  • Use tailored strategies to meet needs identified within the child’s EHCP/IEP
  • Support inclusion, ensuring the pupil can participate fully in classroom and wider school life
  • Adapt learning tasks, scaffold activities and help reduce barriers to learning
  • Use consistent and therapeutic behaviour‑support approaches
  • Prepare and organise resources to create an engaging, accessible learning environment
  • Support with note‑taking, observations and feeding back to the class teacher
  • Use assistive technology or adapted resources to help the pupil access learning

🤝 Working With Others

You’ll work collaboratively with:

  • Class teachers and support staff
  • Parents and carers
  • External agencies including SEN, health or social care teams

You’ll contribute to reviews, share observations, and help ensure everyone involved has accurate information to support the child’s progress.


🛡️ Safeguarding & Pupil Wellbeing

This role involves supporting children throughout the school day, including in classrooms, on the playground, in the dining hall and during visits.

You’ll follow all safeguarding guidance, including Keeping Children Safe in Education, and help promote a secure, caring and supportive environment.

  • Build skills linked to SEND, behaviour support and curriculum access
