(ASD) Teaching Assistant – Ninfield (Battle) – Full-time – Start ASAP

We are seeking to appoint a highly motivated, calm and caring Special Educational Needs Teaching Assistant to join our supportive team. We have full time roles, term time only, available (8.30am – 3.45pm however, you are expected to finish at 4.30pm at least 2 days a week, Monday and Thursday).

Our client is an Independent special needs school, rated Good with Outstanding Elements, & we are seeking someone to join their highly motivated team. The school have students from age 5 to 16 and following onto Post 16 courses up to the age of 21.

We are looking for someone who not only enjoys working with young people from various ages but also enjoys spending time working outdoors surrounded by lovely animals whilst enjoying the stunning views. The setup at this school is very unique, offering a bespoke opportunity to the young people who attend complimented by a large qualified experienced staff team. Class sizes are small and include high levels of support which is what we believe to be our strength. Career progression and professional development is encouraged and supported.

Experience within the SEN (Special Educational Needs) sector is desirable however, not essential.

You will be working for young people with a range of significant barriers to learning including autism, attachment disorder, communication difficulties, trauma, anxiety and sensory processing difficulties. The young people currently learn through an early year’s style curriculum provision which caters for their individual needs. The grounds are surrounded by a variety of animals that the young people like to look after and which also enables them to learn through alternative activities planned with them. The school provides staff who support our young people an opportunity to work in an outdoor environment as well as in the classroom.

The school has an integrated therapeutic approach with an emphasis on outdoor learning. Our client works with young people on the Autistic Spectrum and those who have complex needs. They have small classes of four to six students and they offer a bespoke education with a mixture of academic and vocational courses. The school Mission statement is ‘Positive Learning for Life’. There is a strong emphasis on building self-esteem and confidence, developing independent learners and thinkers and social skills alongside academic achievement.

The successful candidate is someone who:

  • Is able to implement planned learning activities as directed by the teacher, adjusting activities according to student’s abilities
  • Can support the teacher in recording students progress, activities and behaviour
  • Can support students in social and emotional well-being, reporting any problems
  • Can share information about students with other staff, parents/carers, internal and external agencies
  • Is able to work closely within the school team
  • Is very flexible and adapt quickly to change

The post is term- time only and the salary will be pro-rated to take into account that you work term-time only.
