Autism Learning Support Assistant – SEND

Position: SEND School Support Staff (Secondary-Aged Students with Autism)
Location: Just Outside Burgess Hill
Salary: £97 per day
Job Type: Full-Time, Monday – Friday, Term Time Only (8:30 AM – 4:30 PM)

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate individual to join a dynamic SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities) school, supporting secondary-aged students with autism. This full-time, temporary-to-permanent position offers a rewarding opportunity to work with young people who have a range of complex needs, some of whom may display challenging behaviours. The ideal candidate will be resilient, skilled in behaviour management, and committed to making a positive impact on students’ lives.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide 1:1 and small group support to secondary-aged students with autism and related SEND needs.
• Assist in managing challenging behavior in accordance with school policies and behavior management strategies.
• Build trusting relationships with students to help them engage in learning and reach their full potential.
• Work collaboratively with teachers, support staff, and external agencies to create tailored learning and support plans.
• Promote students’ social and emotional development, encouraging positive behavior and emotional well-being.
• Maintain a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment, addressing any safeguarding concerns in line with school policies.

What We Are Looking For:

• Experience working with children who have SEND, particularly those with autism or similar needs.
• A calm, patient, and resilient approach to working with young people who may display challenging behaviors.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to build rapport with students, staff, and external partners.
• A proactive and flexible attitude, with the ability to adapt to the diverse and changing needs of students.
• A passion for helping young people overcome barriers to learning and succeed academically, socially, and emotionally.
