Autism Specialist Teaching Assistant

📍 East Preston
🏫 Large Primary School
🕘 Full‑Time | 8:30am–3:30pm

We are working closely with a large, inclusive primary school in East Preston who are seeking an Autism Specialist Teaching Assistant to join their dedicated SEN team.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with a strong understanding of autism and neurodiversity who is passionate about helping children feel regulated, understood, and supported to thrive within a mainstream school environment.

🧩 The Role

As an Autism Specialist Teaching Assistant, you will:

  • Provide specialist support for pupils with autism across the school day
  • Work 1:1 and in small groups to support learning, communication, and emotional regulation
  • Implement strategies such as visual supports, sensory regulation, now/next boards, and structured routines
  • Support pupils to access the curriculum alongside their peers
  • Assist with transitions, social interaction, and self‑regulation
  • Work closely with the class teacher, SENCo, and wider support staff to follow personalised plans
  • Promote independence, confidence, and positive behaviour in a calm, consistent manner

🌈 About the School

  • A large, well‑resourced primary school with a strong commitment to inclusion
  • Experienced SEN leadership and clear autism‑support structures
  • Collaborative staff team who value specialist knowledge and ongoing development
  • A nurturing ethos where pupils are supported both academically and emotionally

✅ The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has proven experience supporting children with autism, ideally in a school setting
  • Understands sensory needs, emotional regulation, and individual learning styles
  • Uses a calm, patient, and child‑centred approach
  • Communicates confidently with staff, families, and professionals
  • Is flexible, resilient, and committed to inclusive education

Autism‑specific training (e.g. Teacch, Attention Autism, Team Teach) is desirable but not essential — experience and the right approach are key.

🌟 Why Apply?

  • A stable, full‑time role in a supportive and inclusive school
  • Opportunity to use and develop specialist autism skills
  • A welcoming, professional environment where SEN staff are valued
  • Ongoing support from a dedicated education recruitment partner
