Job Title: Behaviour Support Mentor (Secondary mainstream)
Location: Crawley
Working Pattern: Full Time

Overview:

Pink Tile Education is supporting a secondary school in Crawley in their search for a dedicated and resilient Behaviour Support Mentor to join their team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is passionate about supporting young people and helping them overcome barriers to learning, engagement, and personal development.

The successful candidate will work closely with students who require additional behavioural, emotional, and social support, helping them to build confidence, develop positive coping strategies, and successfully engage with school life.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Support students with behavioural, emotional, and social development needs.
  • Implement behaviour support plans and strategies under the guidance of senior staff.
  • Promote positive behaviour and encourage independence, confidence, and self-regulation.
  • Build trusting and professional relationships with students, families, and school staff.
  • Observe, monitor, and accurately record behavioural patterns, triggers, and progress.
  • Provide one-to-one and small-group support across the school environment.
  • Use effective de-escalation techniques to manage challenging behaviour safely and positively.
  • Encourage participation in learning, school activities, and social interactions.
  • Maintain a calm, consistent, and supportive approach when managing challenging situations.
  • Support students with emotional regulation and conflict resolution strategies.
  • Work collaboratively with teaching staff, pastoral teams, SEN professionals, and external agencies where required.
  • Safeguard the wellbeing, dignity, and rights of all students at all times.
  • Uphold school policies and safeguarding procedures at all times.

Ideal Candidate:

  • A compassionate, patient, and resilient individual with a genuine passion for supporting young people.
  • Experience working with children or young people with behavioural, emotional, social, or additional support needs is desirable.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to remain calm and professional in challenging situations.
  • Good understanding of behaviour management strategies, positive reinforcement, and de-escalation techniques.
  • Proactive, adaptable, and able to work effectively both independently and as part of a wider school team.
  • Must hold an enhanced DBS on the Update Service or be willing to obtain one.
