We’re looking for a resilient, compassionate, and adaptable individual to join a specialist school in Bexhill and Hastings, supporting pupils with SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) needs. This is a full-time, long-term position, with the potential to go temp-to-perm for the right person.
You don’t need school experience to make a difference — just the right attitude, transferable skills, and the willingness to learn.
You might have the ideal experience if you’ve worked as or in:
Youth Work / Youth Offending Support
Mental Health / Support Work
Residential Care / Children’s Homes
Behaviour Mentor / Learning Mentor
Sports Coaching / Outdoor Activities
Criminology, Psychology, or Sociology Graduates
Family Support or Social Care
Prison or Probation Services
Customer service or hospitality roles with resilience and people skills
Strong emotional resilience – staying calm in high-pressure situations
Confidence – able to lead, redirect, and support pupils with challenging behaviour
Empathy & patience – building trust and consistency with students who need it most
Excellent communication – especially with pupils who struggle to express emotions
Team player – working closely with staff, therapists, and families
Problem-solving mindset – adapting on the spot and thinking creatively
Supporting students with SEMH and complex needs, both 1:1 and in small groups
Helping pupils manage emotions, develop social skills, and engage in learning
Promoting positive behaviour and emotional regulation strategies
Working closely with teachers and the wider pastoral team
Providing consistency, structure, and a calm presence throughout the day
