Contract: Flexible cover (as required) – 5 days preferred

About the Role

We are looking for a calm and resilient Complex Needs Assistant to support pupils with SEND, SEMH, and behavioural needs across schools in Hailsham. The role focuses on de-escalation, emotional regulation, and positive behaviour support to help pupils stay engaged in learning.


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small-group support for pupils with SEMH, ASD, ADHD, and complex needs.

  • Use trauma-informed, proactive de-escalation techniques.

  • Support pupils with self-regulation and identifying triggers.

  • Help maintain a positive, structured classroom environment.

  • Build supportive relationships that promote wellbeing and engagement.

  • Record behaviour incidents and contribute to support plans.

  • Work closely with teachers, support staff, and families.


About You

Essential

  • Experience with children/young people in SEND, SEMH, or behaviour-support settings.

  • Calm, empathetic, and resilient under pressure.

  • Proactive and flexible, able to work across different school settings.

Preferred

  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service.

  • Knowledge of de-escalation, restorative practice, or trauma-informed approaches.
