We are looking for an enthusiastic and caring De-escalation Mentor to join our supportive team at a Primary SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) school in Woodingdean. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a real difference to children who need help managing their emotions, behaviour, and engagement with learning.
As a De-escalation Mentor, you will work closely with pupils, teachers, and pastoral staff to create a calm, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment. You’ll play a vital role in helping children build emotional regulation, resilience, and positive relationships.
Provide 1:1 and small-group support for pupils with SEMH needs
Use positive behaviour management and de-escalation strategies to support pupils during challenging situations
Build strong, trusting relationships with children to promote emotional wellbeing
Support pupils to re-engage with learning and develop positive coping strategies
Record incidents and interventions accurately, following safeguarding policies
Work collaboratively with class teachers, SENCOs, and external agencies
We’re looking for someone who is:
Experienced in working with children who have SEMH or behavioural needs (in school, youth work, or care settings)
Calm, patient, and empathetic under pressure
Skilled in using de-escalation and restorative approaches
A strong communicator who can build positive relationships with pupils and colleagues
Passionate about making a difference in children’s lives
