About the Role

We are looking for an enthusiastic and caring De-escalation Mentor to join our supportive team at a Primary SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) school in Woodingdean. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a real difference to children who need help managing their emotions, behaviour, and engagement with learning.

As a De-escalation Mentor, you will work closely with pupils, teachers, and pastoral staff to create a calm, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment. You’ll play a vital role in helping children build emotional regulation, resilience, and positive relationships.


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small-group support for pupils with SEMH needs

  • Use positive behaviour management and de-escalation strategies to support pupils during challenging situations

  • Build strong, trusting relationships with children to promote emotional wellbeing

  • Support pupils to re-engage with learning and develop positive coping strategies

  • Record incidents and interventions accurately, following safeguarding policies

  • Work collaboratively with class teachers, SENCOs, and external agencies


About You

We’re looking for someone who is:

  • Experienced in working with children who have SEMH or behavioural needs (in school, youth work, or care settings)

  • Calm, patient, and empathetic under pressure

  • Skilled in using de-escalation and restorative approaches

  • A strong communicator who can build positive relationships with pupils and colleagues

  • Passionate about making a difference in children’s lives
