Full-time Deputy Head Teacher

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and dedicated professional to join our school as a Full-time Deputy Head Teacher. This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate educator to play a crucial role in shaping the future of our school and its students. The successful candidate will be an integral part of the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) and will have a particular focus on Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) support for our diverse student body.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leadership and Management:
    • Work closely with the Head Teacher to develop and implement the school’s vision, values, and strategic plan
    • Lead by example, promoting high standards of teaching, learning, and behavior throughout the school
    • Contribute to the day-to-day management of the school, including staff deployment and resource allocation
    • Chair meetings and lead assemblies as required
    • Deputize for the Head Teacher in their absence, ensuring the smooth running of the school
  • Teaching and Learning:
    • Oversee curriculum development and implementation across all key stages
    • Monitor and evaluate the quality of teaching and learning, providing constructive feedback and support to staff
    • Lead on assessment and data analysis, using insights to drive school improvement
    • Develop and implement strategies to raise student achievement and close attainment gaps
    • Teach a reduced timetable appropriate to the Deputy Head role
  • SEMH Support:
    • Lead the development and implementation of the school’s SEMH strategy
    • Coordinate with external agencies and professionals to provide comprehensive support for students with SEMH needs
    • Train and support staff in identifying and addressing SEMH issues among students
    • Develop and oversee intervention programs for students with SEMH challenges
    • Monitor and evaluate the impact of SEMH initiatives on student well-being and academic progress
  • Staff Development:
    • Contribute to the recruitment, induction, and professional development of teaching and support staff
    • Identify training needs and coordinate appropriate professional development opportunities
    • Mentor and coach middle leaders to develop their leadership skills
    • Conduct performance management reviews for designated staff members
  • Safeguarding and Pastoral Care:
    • Act as the Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead, working closely with the Designated Safeguarding Lead to ensure the safety and well-being of all students
    • Oversee the school’s pastoral care system, ensuring that all students receive appropriate support
    • Develop and maintain positive relationships with parents, carers, and the wider community
    • Manage student behavior and attendance, implementing effective strategies to promote positive conduct and regular attendance
  • School Improvement:
    • Contribute to the school’s self-evaluation process and development planning
    • Lead on specific whole-school improvement initiatives as directed by the Head Teacher
    • Prepare for and contribute to Ofsted inspections and other external evaluations
