Emotional Literacy Support Assistant (ELSA): SEMH & Autism Support Specialist

Location: New SEMH School near Crawley
Salary: £115–£125 per day
Contract: Full-time, Term-Time

About the Role

Are you passionate about making a real difference in the lives of young people? We are looking for a dedicated Emotional Literacy Support Assistant (ELSA) to join a brand-new specialist SEMH school for students aged 11–16. With small class sizes and a nurturing environment, this is an incredible opportunity to support pupils with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health needs and Autism, helping them thrive both academically and emotionally.

What You’ll Do

Provide 1:1 and small group support for students with SEMH and autism
Develop and deliver tailored emotional literacy interventions
Work closely with teachers, parents, and external professionals to create holistic support plans
Help students build confidence, resilience, and coping strategies
Support behaviour management using positive reinforcement techniques
Contribute to Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and EHCPs
Maintain accurate records and report on progress

What We’re Looking For

ELSA qualification (or willingness to train)
Experience supporting young people with SEMH and autism
Strong understanding of emotional literacy and child development
Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
Empathy, patience, and a proactive approach
Knowledge of safeguarding and child protection
