Are you a passionate English Teacher looking to make a real difference to the lives of young people?
We are seeking an enthusiastic and resilient English Teacher to join a specialist Alternative Provision in Worthing from September. This setting supports students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, many of whom have found mainstream education challenging and require a more personalised approach to learning.
This is a fantastic opportunity to work with small groups of students, build meaningful relationships, and help young people re-engage with education in a supportive and nurturing environment.
As an English Teacher, you will:
Teach English across Key Stages 3 and 4.
Plan and deliver engaging, differentiated lessons that meet individual learning needs.
Support students who may experience anxiety, emotional regulation difficulties, trauma, or challenging behaviour.
Encourage confidence, self-esteem, and a positive attitude towards learning.
Monitor progress and adapt teaching strategies to support achievement.
Work closely with support staff, families, and external professionals.
The provision supports students who may:
Be at risk of exclusion or have been excluded from mainstream school.
Struggle with SEMH needs, anxiety, or school avoidance.
Require smaller class sizes and a more personalised learning environment.
Benefit from additional support to re-engage with education and achieve positive outcomes.
The focus is not only on academic achievement but also on helping students develop resilience, confidence, emotional wellbeing, and life skills.
Holds QTS, QTLS, or an equivalent teaching qualification.
Has experience teaching English at secondary level.
Has experience with, or a strong understanding of, SEMH and SEND.
Is confident managing behaviour and using de-escalation strategies.
Can build positive and trusting relationships with vulnerable young people.
Is resilient, patient, and committed to improving outcomes for students.
Believes every young person can succeed with the right support.
Small class sizes and a supportive team environment.
The opportunity to make a genuine difference in young people’s lives.
Ongoing professional development and support.
A rewarding and varied role where no two days are the same.
Temp-to-perm opportunity for the right candidate.
If you are an English Teacher who is passionate about helping young people overcome barriers and achieve success, we would love to hear from you.
