Job Overview

We are seeking a passionate and experienced Full-time English Teacher to join our dedicated team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in teaching English to students with SEN and SEMH needs. This role requires a creative and adaptable approach to curriculum delivery, as well as the ability to provide individualized support to students with diverse learning requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver engaging English lessons that cater to the diverse needs of SEN and SEMH students, ensuring curriculum objectives are met while accommodating individual learning styles and abilities.
  • Create and implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) for students, setting achievable goals and regularly assessing progress.
  • Utilize a variety of teaching methods and resources, including assistive technology, to support students’ learning and engagement in English lessons.
  • Collaborate with the Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO) and other specialists to develop and implement appropriate strategies for supporting students with specific learning difficulties, such as dyslexia or autism spectrum disorders.
  • Provide a safe and supportive classroom environment that promotes positive behavior and emotional well-being for all students.
  • Implement behavior management strategies that are sensitive to the needs of SEN and SEMH students, promoting positive reinforcement and de-escalation techniques.
  • Regularly assess and monitor student progress, providing detailed feedback to students, parents, and other staff members as required.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student progress, interventions, and any incidents or concerns.
  • Participate in multi-disciplinary team meetings to discuss student progress and develop holistic support plans.
  • Collaborate with teaching assistants and other support staff to ensure effective classroom management and individualized student support.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development to stay current with best practices in SEN and SEMH education, as well as English teaching methodologies.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of school-wide literacy initiatives and strategies.
  • Organize and supervise educational visits and extracurricular activities related to English and literacy.
  • Communicate effectively with parents and guardians, providing regular updates on student progress and addressing any concerns.
  • Prepare students for relevant examinations and assessments, ensuring appropriate access arrangements are in place for SEN students.

Qualifications and Skills

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Education, or a related field
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience teaching English in a SEN/SEMH setting
  • In-depth knowledge of the English curriculum and assessment requirements
  • Strong understanding of SEN and SEMH challenges and appropriate teaching
