Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join our dynamic educational team. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in supporting teaching and learning across the school, with a particular focus on Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. Key Responsibilities
- Support and deliver learning activities to individuals, small groups, and whole classes under the guidance of teaching staff
- Plan, prepare, and deliver lessons and learning activities in collaboration with teachers
- Assess, record, and report on students’ development, progress, and attainment
- Provide specialized support for students with SEND and SEMH needs
- Implement and monitor individual education plans (IEPs) and behavior support plans
- Contribute to the development and implementation of school policies and procedures
- Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities
- Maintain a safe, secure, and supportive learning environment
- Collaborate with external agencies and professionals to support students’ needs
- Supervise students during breaks, lunchtimes, and other non-structured times
Detailed Role Description
1. Teaching and Learning Support
As an HLTA, you will be expected to:
- Plan and deliver high-quality learning activities and lessons, adapting teaching strategies to meet the needs of all students
- Use a range of assessment techniques to monitor student progress and inform future planning
- Provide constructive feedback to students, encouraging them to reflect on and improve their work
- Develop and maintain resources to support teaching and learning across the curriculum
- Use technology effectively to enhance learning experiences and outcomes
- Support the implementation of differentiated learning strategies to ensure all students can access the curriculum
2. SEND and SEMH Support
Your expertise in SEND and SEMH will be crucial in:
- Identifying and assessing students’ individual needs, working closely with the SENCO and other professionals
- Developing and implementing personalized interventions and support strategies for students with SEND and SEMH needs
- Providing one-to-one and small group support for students with specific learning difficulties, autism spectrum disorders, or emotional and behavioral challenges
- Adapting learning materials and resources to meet the needs of students with SEND
- Supporting the development of social skills, emotional regulation, and positive behavior management strategies
- Liaising with parents, carers, and external agencies to ensure a holistic approach to supporting students’ needs
3. Behavior Management and Pastoral Care
You will play a key role in:
- Implementing the school’s behavior management policies consistently and fairly
- Developing positive relationships with students, providing emotional support and guidance
- Creating and maintaining a nurturing and inclusive classroom environment
- Supporting students in developing self-esteem, confidence, and resilience
