Salary: £24,000 – £30,000 per annum (depending on experience and qualifications)

🏫 About the Role

We’re looking for a proactive and experienced Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join our brand-new specialist SEMH school for students aged 11–16. This is a unique opportunity to play a key role in shaping a new provision that supports young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needsAutism Spectrum Condition (ASC), and associated learning differences.

As an HLTA, you’ll go beyond classroom support—taking on responsibilities such as leading learning activities, mentoring other support staff, and contributing to curriculum planning. You’ll work closely with teachers and the leadership team to ensure that every student receives the personalised support they need to thrive.


🔑 Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and deliver planned learning activities across a range of subjects
  • Provide cover for teacher absence where appropriate
  • Support curriculum development and adapt resources for individual needs
  • Mentor and support Teaching Assistants and contribute to staff training
  • Monitor student progress and contribute to assessment and planning
  • Foster a calm, therapeutic, and inclusive learning environment

👤 About You

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Holds HLTA status or equivalent qualification/experience
  • Has strong experience working in SEN/SEMH/ASC settings
  • Is confident leading learning and managing small groups or whole classes
  • Has excellent communication and organisational skills
  • Is reflective, resilient, and passionate about inclusive education
  • Enjoys working collaboratively and taking initiative
