About the Opportunity

This is a hands‑on, rewarding position where you will play a key part in helping a young learner feel confident, safe and supported throughout the school day. Working under the direction of the class teacher and SENCo, you will help break learning activities into small, achievable steps and ensure the pupil can access the curriculum at a pace that suits them.

Your day will involve providing structured support during lessons, encouraging social interaction at playtimes, and helping with routines such as transitions, lunch and personal care. The role includes lunchtime supervision.

  • Naturally patient, calm and positive
  • Able to communicate clearly and work collaboratively
  • Flexible, organised and willing to adapt to changing needs
  • Comfortable supporting behaviour, emotional regulation and wellbeing
  • Keen to help children develop independence and confidence
  • Experienced in SEND or school settings (helpful but not essential)

A willingness to learn and an empathetic approach are just as important as experience.

  • Guiding them through instructions, routines and activities
  • Encouraging participation with peers and supporting positive interactions

Supporting Teaching & Learning

  • Preparing the learning area and organising resources
  • Feeding back observations on progress, achievements or challenges
  • Helping with small group work when needed
  • Assisting with admin tasks such as photocopying, filing and resource creation

Being Part of the School Community

  • Following safeguarding, health & safety and confidentiality procedures
  • Promoting inclusion and ensuring equal access to learning
  • Attending training, staff meetings and CPD opportunities
  • Supporting supervision at breaks, lunchtimes and on trips
