We’re recruiting a Learning Pastoral Assistant for a dynamic special school in Crawley, supporting pupils aged 7–16 with SEMH, autism, ADHD, and trauma-related needs.


šŸ’¼ About the Role

This is a unique role combining learning support with pastoral care. You’ll work closely with pupils who need emotional regulation, behaviour support, and a consistent adult presence to help them re-engage with education.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils to support emotional wellbeing
  • Deliver tailored interventions focused on behaviour, resilience, and self-esteem
  • Support pupils in lessons and during transitions, helping them stay regulated and engaged
  • Act as a key adult for pupils with complex SEMH needs
  • Liaise with teachers, therapists, and families to ensure holistic support

We’re looking for someone who is:

  • Experienced in working with children or young people with SEMH, trauma, or behavioural needs
  • Emotionally intelligent, patient, and consistent
  • Skilled in de-escalation and positive behaviour strategies
  • Able to remain calm under pressure and respond with empathy
  • Committed to safeguarding and inclusive practice

Bonus Skills:

  • Experience in alternative provision, youth work, or therapeutic settings
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed approaches, Zones of Regulation, or restorative practice
  • Relevant training (e.g. Team Teach, Mental Health First Aid, Thrive)
