Learning Support Assistant (LSA) – Secondary School Uckfield, Heathfield, Crowborough areas

We are seeking enthusiastic, compassionate and proactive Learning Support Assistants to join a mainstream secondary school supporting students with additional needs, including Autism and other Special Educational Needs (SEN).

This is a rewarding opportunity to work directly with young people who require extra support to access learning, build confidence and thrive both academically and socially. You will play a key role in small group interventions and 1:1 support, working alongside teaching staff to create meaningful progress.


What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Provide 1:1 support to students with additional needs

  • Deliver and support small group intervention sessions

  • Assist students in accessing curriculum content

  • Support pupils with Autism and other SEN requirements

  • Promote engagement, independence and positive behaviour

  • Support emotional regulation and social development

  • Work closely with class teachers and the SEN team

  • Monitor progress and contribute to student development

  • Help maintain a safe, structured and inclusive learning environment


Who We’re Looking For:

We welcome candidates from backgrounds such as:

  • Education / Teaching Assistant experience

  • Care & Support Work

  • Youth Work

  • Sports Coaching

  • Mentoring

  • Residential Support

  • Any role involving supporting young people

Essential Skills & Attributes:

  • Passion for supporting young people

  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills

  • Patience, empathy and resilience

  • Ability to remain calm in challenging situations

  • A proactive and dependable attitude

  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team

Experience with SEN or Autism is desirable but not essential — attitude and commitment matter most.


Role Details:

⏰ Hours: 8:30am – 3:00pm

📅 Term time only
