Are you an experienced Teaching Assistant looking for a rewarding opportunity within a specialist SEN/SEMH school?

A brand-new specialist school in Esher, Surrey is recruiting Teaching Assistants to join their team from September. The school supports young people aged 7–17 with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD).

Teaching Assistant – The Role

As a Teaching Assistant, you will provide classroom, learning and pastoral support to pupils with a range of SEN and SEMH needs. You will work closely with teachers and the wider support team to help pupils engage with education and develop their confidence and independence.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Providing 1:1 and small-group support to pupils
• Supporting pupils with SEN, SEMH and additional learning needs
• Encouraging engagement with lessons and school activities
• Supporting pupils with emotional regulation and wellbeing
• Promoting positive behaviour and managing challenging behaviour calmly
• Building positive and trusting relationships with pupils
• Supporting pupils to develop confidence, independence and life skills
• Working closely with teachers and other professionals to meet individual needs
• Helping to maintain a safe, positive and nurturing learning environment

What We’re Looking For

We are looking for a Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant, SEN Teaching Assistant or experienced support worker who is passionate about working with young people.

You will ideally have:

• Previous experience working with children or young people
• Experience within education, SEN, SEND, SEMH, care, youth work or a similar setting
• A calm, patient and resilient approach
• Confidence supporting young people who may display challenging behaviour
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills
• A genuine passion for supporting young people to achieve their potential

Previous school experience is beneficial but not essential if you have relevant transferable experience.
