Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Part-time Learning Support Assistant to join our dynamic mainstream primary school team. This morning-only position offers an excellent opportunity for individuals passionate about supporting young learners and contributing to their educational journey. The ideal candidate will be proficient in mainstream primary education and committed to fostering a positive learning environment for all students.

Key Responsibilities

  • Classroom Support: Assist teachers in delivering lessons and managing classroom activities during morning sessions. This includes helping with lesson preparation, setting up materials, and ensuring a smooth transition between activities.
  • Individual Student Support: Provide one-on-one or small group support to students who require additional assistance with their learning. This may involve explaining concepts, guiding through tasks, or offering encouragement to boost confidence.
  • Behavior Management: Assist in maintaining a positive and productive classroom environment by supporting the teacher’s behavior management strategies and reinforcing school rules and expectations.
  • Special Educational Needs (SEN) Support: Work closely with the Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO) and class teachers to support students with identified special educational needs, ensuring they can access the curriculum and participate fully in classroom activities.
  • Assessment and Monitoring: Assist in observing and recording student progress, providing valuable insights to teachers for assessment purposes and helping to identify areas where additional support may be needed.
  • Literacy and Numeracy Support: Provide targeted support in core subjects, particularly literacy and numeracy, to help students develop essential skills and meet educational targets.
  • Inclusive Education: Promote an inclusive learning environment that celebrates diversity and ensures all students feel valued and supported in their educational journey.
  • Safeguarding: Adhere to the school’s safeguarding policies and procedures, reporting any concerns about student welfare to the appropriate staff members.
  • Administrative Tasks: Assist with administrative duties related to student support, such as maintaining records, preparing resources, and organizing learning materials.
  • Professional Development: Participate in relevant training and development opportunities to enhance skills and stay updated on best practices in primary education and learning support.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Proficiency in mainstream primary educatione
  • GCSE grade C or above in English and Mathematics (or equivalent)
  • Previous experience working in a primary school setting (desirable)
  • Understanding of child development and learning processes
  • Familiarity with the national curriculum and current educational practices
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Patience, empathy, and the ability to build positive relationships with children
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Flexibility and adaptability to meet the diverse needs of students and staff
  • Basic IT skills and proficiency in using educational technology
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development
  • Valid DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check
