Job Overview

We are seeking a passionate and experienced Full-time Math Teacher to join our team at our SEND School. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in mathematics education and experience working with students with special educational needs, particularly those with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver engaging, differentiated math lessons that cater to the diverse needs of SEND students, with a focus on those with SEMH challenges
  • Create and maintain a positive, inclusive classroom environment that promotes learning and emotional well-being
  • Assess and monitor student progress, providing regular feedback to students, parents, and other staff members
  • Collaborate with other teachers, teaching assistants, and support staff to ensure a cohesive approach to student education and care
  • Implement and support individual education plans (IEPs) for students with specific learning needs
  • Utilize various teaching methods and technologies to accommodate different learning styles and abilities
  • Manage challenging behaviors and implement appropriate behavior management strategies
  • Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress, attendance, and behavior
  • Communicate effectively with parents, guardians, and external agencies to support student development
  • Contribute to the school’s overall ethos and development

Qualifications and Skills

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics or related field
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • Experience teaching mathematics at the secondary level
  • Proven experience working with SEND students, particularly those with SEMH needs
  • Strong understanding of SEND policies and practices
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Patience, empathy, and the ability to build positive relationships with students
  • Proficiency in behavior management techniques
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team
  • Strong organizational and time management skills

Preferred:

  • Master’s degree in Special Education or related field
  • Additional qualifications in SEND or SEMH support
  • Experience with alternative curriculum approaches for SEND students
  • Knowledge of assistive technologies for mathematics education
