About the Role

We are seeking compassionate, resilient, and dedicated Mental Health Support Assistants to join educational settings across Chichester. This rewarding role involves supporting children and young people who may be experiencing social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) challenges, helping them to engage positively with their education and reach their full potential.

Working closely with teachers, pastoral teams, and external professionals, you will provide both one-to-one and small-group support, creating a safe, nurturing, and inclusive environment for pupils.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide emotional and behavioural support to pupils with a range of mental health and wellbeing needs.

  • Build positive and trusting relationships with students to promote engagement and confidence.

  • Support pupils in managing emotions, developing coping strategies, and improving social skills.

  • Assist with implementing individual support plans and behaviour strategies.

  • Work collaboratively with teaching staff, SENCOs, therapists, and families.

  • Encourage participation in learning activities and promote positive outcomes.

  • Monitor and record pupil progress, wellbeing, and behaviour where required.

  • Maintain safeguarding and welfare standards at all times.

What We’re Looking For

  • A genuine passion for supporting children and young people.

  • Experience working in education, youth work, care, mental health, psychology, social work, or related fields is desirable.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to remain calm, patient, and professional in challenging situations.

  • Understanding of mental health, trauma-informed approaches, or SEMH needs is advantageous.

  • Relevant qualifications are welcomed but not essential; full training may be provided for suitable candidates.
