Outreach Tutor (HLTA Level)

Help Young People Reconnect with Education

Are you passionate about supporting young people facing barriers to education? Do you have the resilience, empathy and confidence to build meaningful relationships and inspire positive change?

We are recruiting an Outreach Tutor (HLTA Level) for a specialist provision in Brighton, supporting pupils who are unable to attend school due to SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) needs and other mental health challenges.

This is a 4-day-per-week, term-time only position, offering a long-term opportunity with the aim of becoming permanent by January.

Rate of pay £25 per hour +

About the Role

As an Outreach Tutor in Brighton, you’ll work with young people in their homes and within the local community, providing tailored educational and pastoral support to help them re-engage with learning.

You’ll play a vital role in helping pupils build confidence, develop resilience and successfully transition back into education.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Delivering personalised learning support within the community.
  • Supporting pupils to access online learning and educational resources.
  • Building positive, trusting relationships with young people.
  • Encouraging confidence, independence and emotional wellbeing.
  • Supporting community engagement and life skills development.
  • Working closely with families, schools and external professionals.
  • Monitoring progress and adapting support to meet individual needs.
  • Promoting safeguarding, inclusion and positive outcomes for every pupil.

We’re Looking For Someone Who Has Experience In:

  • HLTA or Teaching Assistant roles
  • SEMH or SEND settings
  • Alternative Provision
  • Behaviour Mentor or Learning Mentor positions
  • Youth Work
  • Family Support
  • Residential Childcare
  • Mental Health Support
  • Outreach or Community Support
  • Social Care
  • Psychology, Criminology or Social Work backgrounds with relevant practical experience

The Ideal Candidate Will Be:

  • Calm, patient and resilient.
  • Passionate about helping vulnerable young people thrive.
  • Skilled at building strong relationships and earning trust.
  • Confident working independently and managing their own timetable.
  • Flexible, proactive and solution-focused.
  • An excellent communicator with strong behaviour management skills.
  • Committed to safeguarding and promoting the wellbeing of children and young people.

Essential Requirements

  • Own vehicle and full UK driving licence – travel across Brighton and the surrounding areas is required.
  • Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain one).
  • Right to work in the UK.
