Hours: Monday–Friday, 8:30am–4:00pm
Requirement: Must have access to a car – travel between sites required (travel expenses paid)
We are currently recruiting a reliable, proactive and practical Premises Officer to join a specialist SEMH school in the Burgess Hill area. This full-time, temp-to-perm role is vital in ensuring the safety, security, cleanliness and maintenance of the school buildings and grounds, supporting a safe and positive learning environment for students and staff.
Working alongside the Premises Manager, you will play a key role in maintaining the school’s infrastructure, carrying out day-to-day site duties and responding to maintenance and health & safety requirements.
The Role Will Include:
Managing site security, including alarms, locks, CCTV and fire safety systems
Carrying out general maintenance and handyperson duties (e.g., painting, basic plumbing, minor repairs)
Liaising with contractors for larger maintenance and repair works
Ensuring the premises are clean, secure and well-maintained at all times
Supporting compliance with health and safety regulations, including legionella testing
Providing porterage support, including moving furniture and equipment
Maintaining external areas and ensuring safe access, particularly during adverse weather
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
Previous experience in a caretaking, site or premises role (school experience desirable)
Good practical maintenance and DIY skills
A strong understanding of health and safety procedures
A reliable, proactive and flexible approach to work
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Good communication and organisational skills
Access to a car and willingness to travel between sites
