We are seeking a dedicated and resilient Secondary Teaching Assistant to join a supportive secondary school in Eastbourne. This role has a strong focus on behaviour management, supporting pupils with Special Educational Needs (SEN), and assisting the class teacher to ensure a positive and productive learning environment.

The Role

You will work closely with pupils who require additional support, either on a 1:1 basis or in small groups, both in and out of the classroom. A confident and calm approach to managing behaviour is essential, as you will support pupils with a range of academic, social, and emotional needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supporting pupils with SEN on a 1:1 basis or in small groups
  • Managing and supporting behaviour in line with the school’s behaviour policy
  • Assisting the class teacher during lessons and with classroom organisation
  • Helping pupils remain focused, engaged, and on task
  • Adapting support to meet individual learning and emotional needs
  • Providing feedback to teaching and pastoral staff on pupil progress
  • Supporting pupils’ academic, social, and emotional development

The Ideal Candidate

  • Has strong behaviour management skills and a calm, patient approach
  • Experience working with SEN pupils (desirable but not essential)
  • Confident working with secondary-aged pupils (KS3 & KS4)
  • Able to support both individuals and small groups effectively
  • Reliable, proactive, and passionate about inclusive education
