Job Summary
We are looking for a compassionate, resilient and proactive 1:1 SEMH Teaching Assistant to support a pupil with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs in a specialist or mainstream setting in Hastings. This is a full-time role ideal for someone who is confident, calm under pressure, and committed to helping pupils overcome barriers to learning.
Provide dedicated 1:1 support to a pupil with SEMH needs
Build a trusting, positive relationship to encourage engagement
Implement behaviour support plans and use de-escalation strategies
Support emotional regulation and help the pupil develop coping skills
Assist with learning tasks, activities and personalised interventions
Work closely with the class teacher, SENCO and pastoral team
Maintain a safe, structured and nurturing environment
Experience supporting pupils with SEMH, trauma or behavioural needs
Strong behaviour management and positive relationship-building skills
Patient, consistent and able to remain calm in challenging situations
Good communication and teamwork skills
Ability to follow guidance but also use initiative
Commitment to safeguarding and promoting pupil wellbeing
Supportive staff team and SEN leadership
Training in SEMH strategies and de-escalation
