SEMH 1:1 Teaching Assistant – Full-Time

Location: Hastings, East Sussex
Contract: Full-Time, Term-Time Only

Job Summary
We are looking for a compassionate, resilient and proactive 1:1 SEMH Teaching Assistant to support a pupil with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs in a specialist or mainstream setting in Hastings. This is a full-time role ideal for someone who is confident, calm under pressure, and committed to helping pupils overcome barriers to learning.


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide dedicated 1:1 support to a pupil with SEMH needs

  • Build a trusting, positive relationship to encourage engagement

  • Implement behaviour support plans and use de-escalation strategies

  • Support emotional regulation and help the pupil develop coping skills

  • Assist with learning tasks, activities and personalised interventions

  • Work closely with the class teacher, SENCO and pastoral team

  • Maintain a safe, structured and nurturing environment


Requirements

  • Experience supporting pupils with SEMH, trauma or behavioural needs

  • Strong behaviour management and positive relationship-building skills

  • Patient, consistent and able to remain calm in challenging situations

  • Good communication and teamwork skills

  • Ability to follow guidance but also use initiative

  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting pupil wellbeing
