We are looking for a committed and resilient Support Assistant to join a specialist SEMH school in Worthing.
You will be working with young adults aged 16–25 who may have experienced past trauma, disrupted education, or other complex needs. As a Support Assistant, your role is to provide consistent, calm, and compassionate support—both in and out of the classroom. You will work closely with teaching staff, therapists, and support teams to help students re-engage with learning, build life skills, and develop positive coping strategies.
Build trusting relationships with students, acting as a positive role model
Support emotional regulation, behaviour management, and daily routines
Assist with learning activities tailored to individual needs
Help students develop social skills, independence, and resilience
Work collaboratively with staff to create a safe and supportive environment
Maintain accurate records and contribute to student reviews and progress reports
A genuine interest in SEMH and trauma-informed practice
Experience working with vulnerable young people (preferred but not essential)
Patience, empathy, and the ability to remain calm under pressure
A proactive and flexible approach to supporting students with complex needs
A DBS on the update service (or willingness to obtain one)
A rewarding role within a supportive and inclusive team
Ongoing training and development in trauma-informed approaches
