Job Title: Maths Teacher (Secondary)  
Location: SEMH Horsham School (ages 11-18)  
Contract: Temporary to Permanent, 20 working weeks. 
Start Date: As soon as possible  
Daily Rate: £97
We are seeking a committed and inspiring Maths Teacher to join our dedicated team, teaching secondary students aged 11 to 18 with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and other Special Educational Needs (SEN). This role is ideal for someone passionate about making mathematics accessible and engaging for young people who face learning barriers.
 
Key Responsibilities:
  • Teaching Mathematics: Plan and deliver engaging, differentiated maths lessons tailored to the diverse needs and abilities of students, helping them develop a strong foundation in mathematical concepts.
  • Individualised Support: Adapt teaching methods and resources to meet the unique learning needs of each student, ensuring they can access the curriculum and make meaningful progress.
  • Classroom Management: Use effective behaviour management strategies to create a positive, structured, and supportive learning environment for students with SEMH needs.
  • Monitoring and Assessment: Regularly assess and track students’ academic progress, offering constructive feedback and targeted support to help them achieve their learning goals.
  • Collaboration with Staff: Work closely with teaching assistants, SEN specialists, and pastoral staff to develop and implement strategies that support students’ emotional and academic development.
  • Encouraging Problem Solving: Foster a love for mathematics by encouraging students to think critically, develop problem-solving skills, and build confidence in their abilities.
  
Candidate Qualities:
  • Passionate about Maths: A love for teaching mathematics and a commitment to making the subject accessible and enjoyable for all students.
  • Experience with SEMH/SEN: Preferably, candidates will have experience working in a SEN or SEMH setting, supporting students with emotional and behavioural difficulties.
  • Patience and Understanding: The ability to build positive relationships with students, offering patience and empathy, particularly in managing challenging behaviours.
  • Adaptability: A flexible and creative approach to teaching, able to modify lessons and activities to suit the individual needs and abilities of each student.
  • Team Player: Strong collaboration skills, working effectively with other staff members to create a supportive and consistent learning environment.
