SEMH Support Assistant Job in Portsmouth

A specialist school in Portsmouth is seeking a compassionate and resilient SEMH Support Assistant to join their dedicated team on a temp to perm basis. The school supports pupils from across Portsmouth who require additional emotional and behavioural support to access education successfully.

This rewarding opportunity in Portsmouth would suit candidates with experience in education, youth work, residential care, support work or mental health settings. Working within a highly supportive environment, you will play a key role in helping young people develop confidence, resilience and positive relationships.

The Role

  • Supporting pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs
  • Building positive and trusting relationships
  • Promoting emotional regulation and engagement in learning
  • Providing 1:1 and small group support
  • Working closely with teaching and pastoral teams

What We’re Looking For

  • Experience supporting children or young people preferred
  • Calm, patient and proactive approach
  • Strong behaviour management skills
  • Passion for helping pupils overcome barriers to learning

Salary: £14.25 per hour
Contract: Full-Time, Temp to Perm
