Are you a qualified teacher with experience supporting children and young people with SEMH needs and challenging behaviour?

Pink Tile Education are looking for a resilient, empathetic and skilled SEMH Teacher to join a specialist provision in Burgess Hill, supporting pupils across both primary and secondary age groups.

This is a rewarding but challenging role, working with pupils who can present with significant emotional, social and behavioural needs. The provision supports pupils who may struggle to access mainstream education and who require a highly individualised and trauma-informed approach.

The Role

As an SEMH Teacher, you will be responsible for creating a safe, structured and supportive classroom environment where emotional regulation comes first.

You will be supporting pupils who may:

  • Display challenging behaviour, including verbal and physical behaviours

  • Refuse or struggle to access the classroom

  • Become highly dysregulated

  • Have significant difficulties with emotional regulation

  • Present with complex SEMH needs

  • Require consistent boundaries, routines and relationships to feel safe

  • Have experienced significant barriers to education

Your role will include:

  • Teaching pupils across primary and secondary age groups

  • Planning and delivering engaging, differentiated learning

  • Putting relationships and emotional regulation first

  • Supporting pupils to regulate before expecting them to engage with learning

  • Managing challenging behaviour calmly and consistently

  • Using positive behaviour management and de-escalation strategies

  • Supporting pupils who may be classroom refusers

  • Building strong, trusting relationships with pupils

  • Establishing clear boundaries and predictable routines

  • Working closely with Teaching Assistants and the wider specialist team

  • Adapting lessons and expectations according to individual pupil needs

  • Supporting pupils to gradually develop confidence, engagement and independence

About You

You must be a qualified teacher to apply for this position.

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Experienced working with SEMH, SEND or challenging behaviour

  • Confident managing highly dysregulated pupils

  • Calm and resilient when faced with verbal or physical challenging behaviour

  • Able to build relationships with pupils who may initially be resistant to education

  • Understanding of trauma-informed and relational approaches

  • Confident setting clear and consistent boundaries

  • Flexible and able to adapt their teaching to individual needs

  • Passionate about helping pupils who have struggled within traditional education

  • Able to see the behaviour behind the behaviour and understand that regulation and relationships come before learning

Experience within SEMH schools, alternative provision, specialist settings or challenging mainstream environments would be highly desirable.

The Provision

This specialist provision in Burgess Hill supports both primary and secondary-aged pupils who require additional support with their social, emotional and mental health needs.

The environment can be challenging, but it is also incredibly rewarding. The team understands that for some pupils, being ready to learn starts with feeling safe, regulated and understood.

You will be joining a specialist team that is committed to giving pupils another opportunity to succeed in education.

Pay & Benefits
