SEN Teaching Assistant – Deaf Support

📍 Mainstream Primary School

We are working with a welcoming mainstream primary school seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to support deaf children within the classroom environment.

🔊 The Role

You will work closely with deaf pupils across the school day, helping them to access the curriculum and feel confident and included in a mainstream setting. Your role will include:

  • Providing targeted 1:1 and small‑group support for deaf pupils
  • Supporting access to learning through visual strategies, adapted resources, and inclusive communication approaches
  • Reinforcing instructions, key vocabulary, and lesson content
  • Supporting social communication and peer interaction
  • Working closely with the class teacher, SENCo, and external professionals (e.g. Teachers of the Deaf)
  • Encouraging independence, confidence, and self‑advocacy
  • Upholding safeguarding and inclusive practice at all times

✅ The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has experience supporting deaf or hearing‑impaired children (school or other settings)
  • Is patient, calm, and highly attuned to children’s communication needs
  • Can adapt learning materials and communication styles effectively
  • Works well as part of a team and takes guidance confidently
  • Has a strong commitment to inclusive education

Experience with sign‑supported communication or BSL is highly desirable, but training and support may be available for the right candidate.
