Full-time SENCO – SEMH Position

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO) with a focus on Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) to join our dynamic educational institution. This full-time position offers an exciting opportunity for a passionate professional to make a significant impact on the lives of students with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the school’s SEND provision, with a particular emphasis on SEMH support
  • Develop and implement effective strategies to identify, assess, and support students with SEND, especially those with SEMH needs
  • Coordinate and oversee the creation, implementation, and review of Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) for students with SEND
  • Collaborate with teachers, support staff, and external agencies to ensure the best possible outcomes for students with SEND
  • Provide guidance and support to teaching staff on differentiation and inclusive teaching practices
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of SEND interventions and support programs
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of students with SEND, including their progress and support plans
  • Liaise with parents, carers, and guardians to ensure effective communication and partnership in supporting students with SEND
  • Stay informed about current legislation, research, and best practices in SEND and SEMH education
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of the school’s SEND policy and procedures
  • Manage the SEND budget effectively and efficiently
  • Provide regular reports to the senior leadership team and governors on SEND provision and outcomes

Specific SEMH Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive SEMH support strategy across the school
  • Coordinate and deliver training for staff on SEMH awareness, identification, and support strategies
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with external SEMH support services and agencies
  • Create and oversee individual behavior support plans for students with SEMH needs
  • Implement and monitor evidence-based SEMH interventions and programs
  • Provide guidance and support to staff on managing challenging behaviors and promoting positive mental health
  • Develop and maintain a nurturing and inclusive school environment that supports students’ emotional well-being
  • Coordinate and facilitate group interventions and support sessions for students with SEMH needs
  • Conduct risk assessments and develop safety plans for students with complex SEMH needs
  • Collaborate with the school’s pastoral team to ensure a holistic approach to student well-being

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) is essential
  • National Award for SEN Coordination (NASENCO) or willingness to complete within three years of appointment
  • Proven experience as a SENCO or in a similar role within an educational setting
  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of SEND legislation, the SEND Code of Practice, and current best practices
