Full-time SENCO – SEMH Position
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO) with a focus on Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) to join our dynamic educational institution. This full-time position offers an exciting opportunity for a passionate professional to make a significant impact on the lives of students with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the school’s SEND provision, with a particular emphasis on SEMH support
- Develop and implement effective strategies to identify, assess, and support students with SEND, especially those with SEMH needs
- Coordinate and oversee the creation, implementation, and review of Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) for students with SEND
- Collaborate with teachers, support staff, and external agencies to ensure the best possible outcomes for students with SEND
- Provide guidance and support to teaching staff on differentiation and inclusive teaching practices
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of SEND interventions and support programs
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of students with SEND, including their progress and support plans
- Liaise with parents, carers, and guardians to ensure effective communication and partnership in supporting students with SEND
- Stay informed about current legislation, research, and best practices in SEND and SEMH education
- Contribute to the development and implementation of the school’s SEND policy and procedures
- Manage the SEND budget effectively and efficiently
- Provide regular reports to the senior leadership team and governors on SEND provision and outcomes
Specific SEMH Responsibilities
- Develop and implement a comprehensive SEMH support strategy across the school
- Coordinate and deliver training for staff on SEMH awareness, identification, and support strategies
- Establish and maintain effective relationships with external SEMH support services and agencies
- Create and oversee individual behavior support plans for students with SEMH needs
- Implement and monitor evidence-based SEMH interventions and programs
- Provide guidance and support to staff on managing challenging behaviors and promoting positive mental health
- Develop and maintain a nurturing and inclusive school environment that supports students’ emotional well-being
- Coordinate and facilitate group interventions and support sessions for students with SEMH needs
- Conduct risk assessments and develop safety plans for students with complex SEMH needs
- Collaborate with the school’s pastoral team to ensure a holistic approach to student well-being
Qualifications and Requirements
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) is essential
- National Award for SEN Coordination (NASENCO) or willingness to complete within three years of appointment
- Proven experience as a SENCO or in a similar role within an educational setting
- Extensive knowledge and understanding of SEND legislation, the SEND Code of Practice, and current best practices
