For some students, success starts with having the right person in their corner.

An ambitious secondary school in Basingstoke is seeking a SEND Engagement Mentor to support pupils who require additional help accessing learning, building confidence and maintaining positive engagement throughout the school day.

This role goes beyond traditional classroom support. You’ll become a consistent and trusted presence for students, helping them overcome barriers to learning and celebrating progress that often happens one step at a time.

The school is particularly interested in applicants who can combine empathy with clear expectations and who understand the impact that positive relationships can have on educational outcomes.

The Role

  • Supporting students with SEND across a range of curriculum areas
  • Working one-to-one and in small intervention groups
  • Encouraging attendance, engagement and participation in lessons
  • Helping pupils develop confidence, organisation and independence
  • Supporting students during transitions and unstructured periods of the day
  • Working closely with teachers, pastoral teams and families where required

Ideal Background

  • Education, youth work, mentoring, care or support-based experience
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • An understanding of SEND and inclusive practice
  • Ability to motivate and encourage young people
  • A proactive and adaptable approach
