SEND Intervention Specialist Teaching Assistant

As a SEND Intervention Specialist Teaching Assistant, the focus is on providing tailored academic and emotional support to students with additional needs—those who may be struggling, as well as those with untapped potential. From delivering bespoke learning interventions to helping students navigate social and emotional challenges, this role blends hands-on classroom support with small group and 1:1 work. Key responsibilities include:
- Delivering targeted support
- Running 1:1 and small group sessions focused on:
- Literacy & numeracy
- Speech & language development
- Social interaction and communication skills
- Emotional well-being (e.g. CBT-style support, Worry Busters)
- Working closely with others
- Collaborating with the SENCO and support staff team
- Liaising with teachers, parents, and external specialists where needed
- Supporting students during lessons, transitions, or unstructured times
Driving real progress
- Helping students gain confidence, independence, and academic growth
- Providing consistent, specialist support to help them meet personal and educational goals
- Shaping effective interventions
- Assisting in the design, delivery, and review of intervention programmes
- Helping ensure each support plan is purposeful and personalised
- Keeping track of progress and adapting approaches as needed
